Now, there are a few things I could answer this with - but I'll go with my gut reaction. I honestly believe that people thing since I am nice to them - that I can be manipulated easily. I've had it happen a lot lately, online and in real life.
Remember just because someone is smiling and is nice - it doesn't mean they can be manipulated easily. Maybe they're just being nice to you!
